Tiny Dog Bakery Chicago Closed

Mocha Mocha

These days it takes a little something extra to get me excited about another cupcake shop, sorry.  Not trying to be a snob but let’s face it I’ve personally baked about 500,000 cupcakes (give or take a couple) and in the last year visited about 200 cupcake shops on my Sweets Tour.  One could say I have at least some basic knowledge in this area and lucky for everyone I only post the good ones.  The cupcakes were moist and the frosting not too sweet, perfection in my mind.

It wasn’t the friendly girls behind the counter that caught my attention, that is expected or should be anyway.  What got me was the cupshake :)  A cupcake milkshake made with a rainbow vanilla cupcake.  Even though I ran a cupcake shop for years my kids always wanted the box mix called FunFetti.  It would just kill me that they asked for it but I understood why.  It’s rainbow!  Tiny Dog made a cupcake just like the box mix only from scratch and much better. I choose that for my shake, red velvet seemed to be the most popular.  It was on the sweet side naturally but I was ready.  Delish.

Mom and pop style shop with wonderful service.  Best of all creative and great tasting cupcakes.   The decor was charming and full of color and art from local artists.  Amazing attention to detail, check out the tiny bone on the red velvet.

I loved how they use the purple bakery boxes and not pink and incorporate them into the wall design.

Sadly this bakery has closed!!! I was so disappointed to hear.  What does this mean?  Well I think it’s a sign of the time when a wonderful shop has to shutter the doors.  I know all too well the baking business is hard and long hours.  The rents are high and the competition is steep.  In honor of this cute little shop I’m gona make a cupshake today :)     R.I.P. Tiny Dog- loved you.

How sad that this lovely shop had to close up. So many people dream of running/owning their own little bakery business yet few realize the work and true costs involved, let alone the failure rate. I think people should be running seminars on what it takes to try and make it in the bakery business and those who think that they want to open a shop should attend before they sign that lease.

Probably BRP Box Company. They are a custom color. I’m sure there is a minimum. It’s where I got my boxes. http://www.brpboxshop.com/
