Meatloaf bakery here I come. On my recent trip through Chicago I made it a point to stop at this unusual shop in the Lincoln Park area. Parking is ridiculous but I didn’t care what would one expect for the windy city.
This was something I’d been hearing about and knew it was going to be on Food Network so I made the effort. Just a tiny little spot from the outside but lots of goodies on the inside, sorry to say seating is limited though. Don’t forget when you place the order they must heat the cupcakes up before serving and that can take awhile, longer than I had anticipated.
It can be a little confusing with the name Meatloaf Bakery. Are these little creations cupcakes or main meals? In this case I would say more bakery than meat.
The bottom of the cupcakes are meatloaf based and topped with mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, spaghetti. The meatloaf base was more filler than meat, more bread-like with a small amount of meat. They also offer some mini versions of the big guys which is nice to be able to sample so many variations without walking out the size of a blimp. I got the Wing and a Prayer made with hot and spicy wing sauce teamed up with lots of crumbled blue cheese, ground chicken and celery for an easy-to-eat hot wing treat. Topped with a buttery blue cheese crust and served with ranch dressing. Always love to dip anything into Ranch sauce!!! The minis were meatloaf in a quiche shell topped with a dab of mashed potatoes and a meatloaf slider with bacon. You can also order balls of mashed potatoes, pasta, and some roasted veggies.
My visit inspired a recipe version of the meatloaf cupcake more in line with my desires. More meat!!!!! http://www.warningsugarygoodness.com/?p=508
Nevertheless I did enjoy my clever dish and it certainly got me thinking.
You must visit!

Not a big fan of meat-loaf but the idea behind this bakery is certainly a novel one. Your version would satisfy any appetite!
WOW – not being a huge sweet fan, but love my savoury items… I would have been all over this place – yum!
