Porto is not a new bakery by any means yet it is one of the biggest I’ve been to so far. They opened in 1960 and now have three locations. I’m kind’a partial to small mom and pop bakeries probably because I owned one. So when my sister in-law suggested we go here I wasn’t all that excited. Once again she was right.

Friendly service and plenty of it. Although there were tons of people in line it went fast. This young girl Yadira was our server, gave us samples, and then wrote happy birthday on a cake for the next customer!

You can get someone to write on your cake, Johnny on the spot, can you believe it?

They are know for these stuffed meat balls and empanadas. The meat ball was tender seasoned shredded beef with mashed potatoes wrapped around, rolled in panko crumbs, and quickly deep fried. OMG if you go, get these for starters. Wait we came for the sweets, right.
The Lemon meringue tart was lemony custard with a dollop of meringue. Dolce de leche pie had a creamy filling of caramel and a meringue top.. Again both delectable. Flavor and texture was what you would expect.
They have every bakery item you can think of, bread, cake, cupcakes, pies, tarts, cookies, bars, and on and on. This excursion was a food bonanza to say the least. If that wasn’t enough the pricing was very inexpensive. I have one word for that- volume. We went to the Downey location which is a brand new facility. They also have one in Glendale and Burbank.
