Yep you heard right, I closed the cupcake shop!

by Karen on June 30, 2011

I know, I know.  Why?  Well it goes something like this…………………………………….. It was a number of things really not just one.

It came down to the wire in negotiating my what would have been my new lease.  At the end of the day I thought it was time.  Some of you may know this but I work 100 hours a week and that’s been going on for most of the 4 years I’ve been in the cupcake business.  Needless to say I’m just a little tired.  But more importantly I’ve just sent my last kid off to the East Coast to go to college.  A huge milestone for me.  I have been a devoted single mom for the last 15 years and I’m taking some time to regroup.

First let me say thank you to all my loyal followers.  I am forever grateful to have such a great group of customers,  always positive and supportive.

As my dad always said exit at the top of your game not the bottom.

Be happy for me and get ready for the next adventure.

My plan is to head across the country visiting places and people I’ve had on my radar for a long time.  Of course you know there is going to be food involved.

THANK YOU AGAIN!

I’m so sad to hear the news. I’ve been a follower on Facebook, having only been to your shop once. I will miss seeing the pictures of your beautiful creations. I’m only sad for myself because I’ll never get to eat any of your cupcakes now. Best of luck on your new adventure!

Karen I’m so sad! Ok, only because I’m selfishly not going to be able to indulge in your Salted Carmel Macchiatto (I have no idea how to spell that) cupcake anymore! :-( But, good for you for making a choice that is best for you! As a single mom myself I know how hard that can be! Congrats to you and good luck! (and if she feel like sharing your recipe so my daughter can make me your special cupcake, feel free). ;-)

We’re sorry to see you go. Your cupcakes were the reason to visit Walnut Creek. It won’t be the same without you.

Hi Karen,

We had met just after you opened your shop. Sorry to see you go, but completely understand needing a break! I wanted to ask what you were doing with your inventory of cake plates, boxes, etc., as I would love to purchase some things if you are selling.

Thanks, and happy travels!
Lauren

Lauren,
The paper goods I gave to my head baker as a parting gift! The cake plates I’m keeping. I’ll still be cupcaking just not from a retail store and not for about a year. But I’ll need them for photos.
